SONNENZIRKEL (Rhein)

Sunlight on silver gelatin, 79×99 cm, video 15:27 min, instrument: solar pen (Rina)
2017

A pinhole camera with photographic paper travelled the 14.4 km distance along the Rhine from Sargans to Buchs on ten sunny days in August 2017, floating on the river and photographing the sun. The interplay between the river’s flow and the apparent movement of the sun in the sky produced ten photographs. They record the changing positions of the sun in the sky as circular forms of various sizes. Wind, weather, water level, and obstructions (branches, stones, sandbars, etc.) also influenced the journeys and therefore also the resulting photographs.
